  20. INTRODUCTION.

  22. DRAWIT is a Windows 95/98 shareware program for all your graphics and drawing
  23. needs. It will let you make illustrations, signs, posters, and banners. 
  24. DRAWIT combines the best features of graphics and desktop publishing - 
  25. with additional features especially for big posters and banners. 
  26.  
  27. DRAWING FEATURES:
  28. o A full set of drawing tools (rectangle, line, oval, etc.).
  29. o Complete flexibility in the placement of graphics.
  30. o Quick shapes (triangle, arrows, etc.).
  31. o Apply textures and gradient fills (over 30 textures included).
  32. o Rotate, group, snap-to-grid, and other drawing features.

  69. DRAWIT is great for a wide variety of projects at work, school, home, or 
  70. clubs:

  79. USERS OF POSTER 6.x.
  80.  
  81. DRAWIT is based on POSTER 6.0, and contains a similar interface.
  82. However, many aspects of DRAWIT have been enhanced:
  83. 1. More graphics formats are supported.
  84. 2. Copy to the clipboard for use by other programs, and between
  85.    multiple copies of DRAWIT, is supported.
  86. 3. Additional image processing options are supported.

  88. POSTER, on the other hand contains features not found in DRAWIT,
  89. such as the quick-start wizard.

  91. If you are a registered POSTER user, you can use your registration code
  92. to 'unlock' DRAWIT at no additional charge.
  93. Similarly, the DRAWIT registration code will 'unlock' POSTER.

  98. Double click on drawit20.exe to run the installation program.

  101. PRINTER NOTES:

  104. BANNER PRINTING ON HP PRINTERS:
  105. Banner (continuous forms) are supported on HP 6xx and 7xx printers that
  106. specifically support continuous forms - banner mode.  HP 8xx printers
  107. do NOT support continuous forms.
  108. IMPORTANT: You MUST set your printer into banner mode: 
  109. 1. Physically set the lever on the printer to banner mode.
  110. 2. Set the driver to banner mode:  File->Printer Setup->Properties.
  111.    Click on Continuous Forms (banner).
  112. 3. When you print, in the File->Print dialog box, click "Continuous Forms".
  113.

  115. BANNER PRINTING ON EPSON COLOR STYLUS PRINTERS.
  116. The epson color stylus printers will print a banner up to 44 inches wide
  117. as a single continuous page.  To do this:
  118. 1. Go into Printer Setup for the Epson, and set page size to User Defined,
  119.    and set length to 44".
  120. 2. Start DRAWIT.
  121. 3. Select New->Horizontal (or Vertical). DO NOT SELECT BANNER MODE.
  122. 4. Create your poster.
  123. 5. Print it at 1x.
  124. If you want something longer than 44", you can select BANNER, then create
  125. a 2 page banner.  You will have to tape the 2 44" pages together.
  126.  
  127. HP680C (and 682C):
  128. To print Continuous forms (banner paper) correctly, you MUST have 
  129. version 9 of the printer driver.  Version 8 does not properly handle
  130. characters that cross page boundaries in banner mode.
  131. When printing banners:
  132. 1. Be sure to set the Paper mode to Banner in  the printer setup properties box.  
  133. 2. Also, make sure the 'continuous forms'
  134. box is checked in the POSTER Print dialog box.
  135.  
  136. CONTINUOUS FORMS:
  137. Poster supports continuous forms on dot matrix and the HP680. Be 
  138. sure to check the continuous forms box in the DRAWIT Print dialog box.
  139. You may use continuous forms for posters or banners.  Using it for
  140. posters causes your poster to be printed in continuous strips, reducing
  141. the amount you have to paste together.
  142.  
  143. PROBLEMS WITH PAGE EJECTS WITH CONTINUOUS FORMS:
  144. If your printer page ejects while trying to print continuous forms,
  145. you must adjust the page size.  EACH time you print:
  146. 1. Select File->Print.  Then select Continuous Forms.
  147. 2. Click on "More"
  148. 3. Adjust the field "Override Paper Size, Height" to a smaller value.
  149. 4. Select OK.
  150. 5. Select OK.
  151. You may have to adjust this field up or down to get Poster to go to the
  152. very edge of the current page, and then begin the next page at the very top of
  153. the next page.
  154.  
  155. PROBLEMS WITH DROPPED CHARACTERS AT PAGE BOUNDARIES:
  156. If DRAWIT drops characters at page boundaries, try checking 
  157. the box marked "Method A1" in the PRINT dialog box. 
  158. If this still doesn't work, try "Method 
  159. B" or "Method C".  Also, see the special setup instructions below.

  162. LASERJET III USERS.
  163. If the posters you print are missing characters at page edges, then do 
  164. the following:
  165. 1. Select "Method A" in the Poster Print Dialog box.  Also, be sure your 
  166.    printer is set to 300 dpi.
  167. 2. If this doesn't work, or it is too slow for you, install and use the 
  168.    Laserjet II driver. 
  169.  
  170. LASERJET 4 USERS.
  171. If you cannot successfully print posters, configure your printer as 
  172. follows:
  173. 1. Select "Printer Setup":
  174. 2. Select "options". 
  175. 4. Select "Graphics Mode" = "raster", "Graphics Quality"="high", and
  176.      check "print true-type as graphics".
  177. 5. If posters still do not print properly, then in the File->Printer Setup box, 
  178. check the boxed marked "Method A1". This should always work.  
  179.  
  180. HP LARGE FORMAT (650, 760) USERS:
  181. DRAWIT will support these printers. From printer setup, select the final page size
  182. you want, such as 22 x 44.  Then start Poster and select a horizontal or vertical
  183. poster. Print the poster at 1x.
  184. If you want something longer, start Poster and Select Custom Size.  Then select
  185. the number of pages long that you want (such as 1 page high by 2 pages long).
  186.  
  187. POSTSCRIPT PRINTER USERS.
  188. Not all Special Effects characters print properly on Postscript printers.
  189. If you get funny characters printing out, it is probably because you are
  190. using special effects.  Don't use those particular special effects that are
  191. marked in Poster as bad on postscript printers.
  192.  
  193. If you get postscript errors, or you are loosing characters at page 
  194. boundaries:
  195. 1. From the control panel, select Printers, then select 'Setup.
  196. 2. Select "options", then select "advanced".
  197. 3. Select "print true type fonts as" "Bitmap (type 3)".
  198. 4. Close the control panel.
  199. 5. Start DRAWIT.
  200. If posters still do not print properly, or print too slow, then in the 
  201. Printer Setup dialog box, check the boxed marked "Method A1". If this fails, 
  202. try method "B".

  226. DRAWIT is shareware. If you try this program, find it useful, and 
  227. continue to use it, you are expected to register. The cost is only $16 
  228. (+$2 shipping, $4 overseas), which is very reasonable for
  229. a program as powerful DRAWIT.

  231. Unregistered users are limited to a 30 day evaluation period, 
  232. and printing up to 12 multi-sheet posters and banners. 
  233. When you register, you are entitled to unlimited support, future
  234. versions, and a disk of 100 fancy borders.  You will receive the 
  235. registration code immediately, which will remove the 30 day limit
  236. and the 12 poster limit. (Be sure to include your email address). To register:

  280. DEINSTALL  (REMOVING DRAWIT)
  281.  
  282. To remove DRAWIT from your system, do the following:
  283.  
  284. 1. Find the directory containing DRAWIT, usually "Drawit".
  285. 2. Delete all files, using erase *.*.
  286.    Delete the file 'drawit.ini' from your WINDOWS directory.
  287. 3. To remove the start icon:
  288.     Win95: Click on 'Start', then 'Settings', then 'Task Bar', then
  289.         'Start Text Menu', then 'Remove'.  Find the DRAWIT entry,
  290.         highlight it, and then click on 'Remove'.

  294. USING DRAWIT.
  295.  
  296. To start using DRAWIT, simply double click on the DRAWIT icon.  
  297.  
  298. The DRAWIT install program also associates *.POS files with DRAWIT.
  299. Double clicking on a POS file will 
  300. automatically start poster with that file.

  307. Users of DRAWIT must accept this disclaimer of warranty:
  308. DRAWIT is supplied as is.  The author disclaims all
  309. warranties, expressed or implied, including, without limitation,
  310. the warranties of merchantability and of fitness for any purpose.
  311. The author assumes no liability for damages, direct or conse-
  312. quential, which may result from the use of DRAWIT 
  313.  
  314. DRAWIT is a "shareware program" and is provided at no charge
  315. to the user for evaluation.  Feel free to share it with your
  316. friends, but please do not give it away altered or as part of
  317. another system.  The essence of "user-supported" software is to
  318. provide personal computer users with quality software without
  319. high prices, and yet to provide incentive for programmers to
  320. continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  321. useful and find that you are using DRAWIT and continue to use
  322. DRAWIT after a reasonable trial period, you must make a reg-

  338. first contact the author at the address below for authorization.

  343. copy if they find that they can use it.  All registered users

  351. about 50,000 lines of code.
